Born in 1972, I was brought up in a rural north Oxfordshire village surrounded by large areas of open farmland. This, coupled with an exposure to my father’s interest in wildlife, soon rubbed off and an interest in photography soon followed. An initial interest in photographing birds soon developed to include all aspects of the natural world and British Wildlife in particular. An encounter with a family of foxes in 1988 led to my very first competition entry resulting in a runners up prize in the Junior BBC Wildlife Photographer of the Year. Since then I have had success in a number of competitions including a first place for my shot of a Yellowhammer run by Birdwatching magazine  (International Wildbird Photographer of the Year 2004) and more recently first place in the Natural Wonders Catagory of Travel Photographer of the Year 2009 ( www.tpoty.com ).

The advent of digital technology has definitely changed the manner in which I work. The ability to view images as soon as they have been taken allows not only revision of composition but also deletion of inferior images without the expense of wasting film.

My initial foray into the world of digital photography started with the Nikon D100 six million pixel camera the quality of which was impressive but unfortunately the lack of speed often limited the ability to be creative.

The purchase of a D2H soon followed which allowed quicker bursts of speed providing superb quality despite fewer pixels. More recently I have acquired the much hyped D2X combining both the speed and quality long desired by photographers. The results to date have far exceeded expectations providing sharper images which has not previously been possible.

Things have now changed even more with the advent of the Nikon D3 a truly amazing camera allowing shots to be taken at 1000 ISO and above with little or no noise evident, amazing!! I am now using this as my main body with the D300 as backup and the results to date are incredible allowing shots I never dreamt of capturing!!

I have had work published in numerous publications including Birdwatch, Birdwatching and BBC Wildlife magazines; and also have a number of wildlife organisations amongst my client list including English Nature, Greater London Authority and the Black Redstart Organisation.

I now strive to capture my subjects in new and interesting ways introducing a fresh outlook on the natural world as opposed to traditional frame filling images.
